Freedom Train - it's Serious Fun!
Freedom Train is a community choir based in Waterford, Logan (about 30 klms south of Brisbane), Queensland, Australia, founded in July 2008, conducted by professional choir-director, Cath Mundy.
WHO STARTED FREEDOM TRAIN?
Freedom Train was founded by its current directors Cath Mundy & Jay Turner (aka musical duo mundyturner). Cath & Jay are professional singers, songwriters, performers & musicians, with decades of experience in live and recorded performance. They love at bringing people of all levels of vocal ability together to find their voice.
WHY FREEDOM TRAIN?
The purpose of Freedom Train is to provide the Logan area with an inclusive community choir that values a nurturing, supportive, joyful environment. Our focus is to develop skills & confidence, have fun, make friends, strengthen our community, support each other and sing for joy.
There are NO AUDITIONS and ALL ARE WELCOME to come along for a free "first-time" trial session, with no obligation to join.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL CHOIR
As of May 2016, new members are required to be confident with our current 'intermediate' level of group-skill. This means feeling comfortable with important skills including singing in key/on pitch and holding a harmony part with other parts, blending, ability to learn by ear, working in rhythm/tempo/syncopation. There is no need to audition, just take part in a free trial session with Freedom Train, relax and have fun!
WHEN AND WHERE DO FREEDOM TRAIN MEET?
* Mondays 6-8pm, during school terms (NOTE: some Thursday evening rehearsals may be called in the lead-up to a performance)
* TALBARRA RSL CARE, at "the Venue", in the Main Reception Building at Talbarra, 130-150 Old Logan Village Rd, Waterford. There is plenty of free parking on site.
WHAT REPERTOIRE?
We sing a broad variety of material from folk-world-roots to pop-rock from the '50s to now. (We are quite partial to South African 4-part harmony!!) Songs that feed the soul! If you play the ukulele, bring it along! We often have a ukey sing-along session at the start of a rehearsal.
DO THE CHOIR PERFORM?
Freedom Train also perform at community events/functions and concerts. Recent highlights include:
* Logan Art Gallery "Music in the Gallery" series: 18 June 2016 concert
* Brisbane Sings 2016, Concert Hall Queensland Performing Arts Centre, 28 August
* Queensland Music Festival's epic production Under This Sky - Logan's Musical Celebration 2015 (featured in SBS documentary The Logan Project)
