A BIG well done to everyone who sang at the "Singing Extravaganza" at Ellaways Music on Saturday 22 May.
Three community choirs combined to lift the roof at Ellaways Music Auditorium in Underwood on Saturday 22 May as part of Making Music Being Well week.
Organised by John Rodriquez of Singchronicity, supported by Ellaways Music, and opened by Logan Mayor Pam Parker, the day featured performances by "my choirs" Waterford-based Freedom Train community choir and Mixed Beans multicultural choir from Beenleigh plus Morningsong from Bulimba (led by Jane Bektel).
It was truly special to listen to each choir, to support each other, and have a real sense of sharing rather than competitiveness.
What a joy to combine the three choirs for Israeli song Peace Forever and energetic Kenyan chant Apondi for the finale, led by Mixed Beans member Blaise Mukendi. The energy in the room was certainly charged with positivity!
Mayor Pam Parker, who is also patron to both Freedom Train & Mixed Beans, congratulated all the singers on a highly enjoyable morning of sharing through song.
After a break for lunch, thirty people enjoyed the Sing for Joy playshop led by John Rodriquez. Thank you to John for organising the day and to Greg Dodge & Ellaways Music for their support & help with the venue. Thank you to Mayor Parker for her ongoing support & enthusiasm.
One choir member said "we should do this again with more community choirs". It would be great if the Singing Extravaganza became an annual event, of community choirs singing for and with each other in the spirit of sharing of singing for joy and being well!!
